Global generation Limkokwing

“What you see here is the next generation of creative people. I am working with a lot of Limkokwing graduates and they are a product of the concept we first put in place in 1975 — a concept we have not changed.”
— Tan Sri Lim Kok Wing
The splendour of the Limkokwing campus in Cyberjaya is quite a sight to behold. Its uniquely designed façade, a result of harnessing artistry and technology, is something never before seen in the region. The giant digitally composed building skin bearing features that reflect the Creative Industries, is a visual feast that grabs your attention even from afar.
Appearance aside, there is no mistaking the strong signals Limkokwing is sending from its hi-tech address. True to its role as catalyst, activities and events are set to take place at the campus that will stimulate industry and ultimately, lead to a more creative people and a more innovative nation.
Some 5,000 creative minds from 80 countries have converged here in the name of pursuing higher education - and the numbers continue to grow. Their presence is testimony to the quality Limkokwing represents. The big picture clearly shows Limkokwing, along with its professional arm, Malaysia Design & Innovation Centre, contributing towards putting Malaysia on the international map as a centre of educational excellence. And of course, with its focus on creativity and innovation, it helps produce a generation of global graduates not only skilled in terms of engaging technology but also bearing the right traits to succeed in any environment.
Nurturing creativity
Tan Sri Lim Kok Wing, president of the university college and the Innovation Centre, says, “What you see here is the next generation of creative people. I am working with a lot of Limkokwing graduates and they are a product of the concept we first put in place in 1975 - a concept we have not changed. So yes, people who used to study here now work with me. And it’s wonderful as now I get to learn from them as well!”
Among the former Limkokwing students who now work for Tan Sri Lim are Sajita Nair, Stanley Clement and Prem Anand Pillai, all award-winning students and all creative, versatile, and IT-savvy. Sajita helps head the university college’s marketing department while Stanley and Prem, who are in multimedia, video broadcasting and web design, play significant roles in such projects as setting up Wings of Creativity, the university college’s library that showcases the organisation’s efforts in promoting creativity and innovation.
“We are in fact moving into our third generation of creative students. Graduates such as Sajita and Stanley now work with us as partners, contributing to improving standards in the local education scene,” reveals Tan Sri Lim. “And they grow with us. Sajita, for instance, gets to travel overseas a lot because of her work. As for Stanley and Prem, with their confidence and the values imbued in them, they are able to kick start big projects on their own.”
“Basically, we have turned the process upside down. In looking at input, we first focus on the kind of output we should have.”
But simple though it may seem, the process of moulding the ideal worker is one that calls for careful planning.
However, academic excellence is but one of the hallmarks of the Limkokwing student. The university college places emphasis on producing all-round students: the Limkokwing model of success is one who is creative, versatile, IT-savvy and industry-ready.
