IIUM TO GET ICT FACULTY

KUALA LUMPUR, Tues. - The International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) has received Education Ministry approval to set up the Kulliyyah (Faculty) of Information and Communications Technology at its main campus in Gombak.
The ICT Faculty comprises four departments - Information Technology, Computer Science, Information System and Information Science.
It will initially offer three academic programmes offered by other faculties of the university.
Rector Prof Dr Mohd Kamal Hassan said the ICT faculty was set up in accordance with IIUM's 10th Strategic Plan (2001-2010) to upgrade the percentage of its science students from 10 per cent to 60 per cent.
"Our ICT faculty will play an important role in enhancing Islamic content through software development.
"This will contribute towards the effort of integration and Islamisation of knowledge and technology, which is IIUM's main philosophy."
